Local woman celebrates 100 years of life with a birthday tea party

 “I can’t believe it myself.”

Donna Peterson, a resident of Grace Living Center Del City, expressed her own disbelief when asked about celebrating her 100th birthday and then flashed her infectious smile. Smiling is a favorite pastime for this new centenarian.

“I love laughing and smiling. I love happiness. I love that show of happiness in others,” she explained.

There were plenty of smiles as Donna celebrated her birthday with family, friends and staff at Grace Living Center where a 100th Birthday Tea Party was held in her honor.

Born in Oklahoma City on August 15th, 1917, Donna lived in the area most of her life. Asked why she never moved away and her response was simple.

“I love it,” she said.

Donna also loved her late husband Leroy Peterson, an oil field mechanic, from the moment she saw him.

“I was crazy about him. So I chased him till I got him,” she said, again showing that now familiar smile.

A mother and grandmother, Donna has enjoyed a lifetime of happiness and it shows. When asked about her secret to long life, she pondered for a moment and then replied.

“I haven’t really done anything special. Nothing stands out to me,” she paused, thinking for a moment and then added, “I have done a lot of walking.”

And there it was again, Donna’s trademark smile.
