Grace Living Center resident Marilyn Rackley enjoys a moment with ombudsman, Shirley Bumside. Bumside is retiring from her voluntary position after almost 20 years. Since 1998, she has been a faithful servant to the residents of the home, always willing to lend a friendly ear. Through the years, Bumside also became a close personal friend to many of the residents of the home and is well-loved by all. Bumside told her friends at Grace that she still intends to visit regularly because “you can’t keep me away.” The home’s administrator, staff and residents will continue to love and cherish this special friend.

At Grace Living Center Buffalo each December, the doors become stars for the holidays. Each resident is treated to a custom-designed door courtesy of staff members at the home.

The flu is miserable for everyone, but it can be particularly dangerous for the elderly.

Keeping cold fluids close by and encouraging frequent sips is one way to help older adults avoid heat-related problems during hot weather. Full article enclosed.

Richard Battles (plaid shirt) helped residents Sammy Little, Minnie Clark and John Engleman with a balloon release at the home. The balloons carried messages of friendship in hopes of brightening someone’s day. Colleagues say Battles, who was recently awarded Grace’s Culture Award, helps brighten the world of those he serves daily and truly lives the spirit of National Nursing Home Week throughout the year.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt at Grace Living Center Buffalo was a hoppin’ success! Kids from the community eagerly awaited their chance to dart into the center’s yard and fill their baskets to the brim with Easter eggs, which the residents and staff had stuffed with goodies for the youngsters.

Activities are very important at Grace Living Center because they help keep residents engaged mentally and socially. They do everything from trivia to making quilts.

To a child, a pet is a playmate. But to an older person, a pet becomes a companion and confidant. Studies also show pets can benefit older adults physically and emotionally. That’s why Grace Living Center Buffalo welcomes regular visits from two dogs that have become favorites with the residents.

Christmas Memories at the Grace Living Center Buffalo Branch

Grace Living Center Buffalo residents proved that with their entry in this year’s Homecoming parade. Riding the float were John Engleman, Nellie Garriot, Minnie Clark, Phyllis Bryan, Kin Hudson, Sammy Little and Shannon Day. “Dust Bowl to Outer Space” was the theme for the entry. Fellow Grace resident Marlene Renous came up with the theme and did many of the decorations.
